Thank you so much to Disney/Pixar for sending me on this travel and accommodations provided press trip.

Let me tell you about a little animated film that you’ll see right before CARS 3; it’s called LOU and trust me when I say that being late for CARS 3 shouldn’t be an option for you. This short animated film, directed by David Mullins and produced by Dana Murray, has a touching story to tell and resonates with both young and old audiences. While I was in Anaheim for the #Cars3Event press junket, I had the privilege to listen to both Mullins and Murray present the concept of LOU and provide insight on some of the ins and outs of the film. Pay attention, I smell an Academy Award nomination in the near future for this first time director.

10 Facts About the Short Animated Film that will Rock Your World

  1. Chief Creative Officer of Pixar, John Lasseter, maintains that all Pixar films need to have four key characteristics, that Mullins explained to us, “Heart: being the character is flawed in some way and experiences personal growth over the course of the film. Entertainment: The story has to be unpredictable and funny. It needs to take the viewers to a place that is exciting, where they haven’t been before and it’s new…Animation: The film must be good in animation and use animation’s full potential…These ingredients are what appeal to the a audience.” This is perfect to watch after some action packed sports betting games via https://massholemommy.com/.
  2. David Mullins began brainstorming and pitching ideas for his first animated short in 2005.
  3. Mullins moved every year while growing up because his father was ambitious and kept getting promoted, as a child Mullins said he often wanted to be invisible and blend into the crowd when he was new to a school. This gave him the idea of an invisible creature who could hide in plain sight and lived in an elementary school. and wanted to be accepted by the other children.
  4. Mullins’ first idea was flawed so he reworked some of the aspects of his pitch that didn’t match up and came up with a creature who could hide in plain sight and a child who wanted to be accepted by the other children.
  5. The first title for the film was “Lost and Found”, however, that title was already taken. The team came up with LOU instead of Lost and Found.
  6. Mullins’ wife, Lisa, is a stop motion animator and he enlisted her help in creating the character of “Lou” and how he would move.
  7. Dana Murray came onto the film as producer in 2015; she was the production manager for INSIDE OUT.
  8. Christophe Beck, who composed Disney’s full length animated film, FROZEN, was brought on to compose the memorable score for LOU.
  9. At the end of the film, you’ll see that it’s dedicated, “For Dad.” That’s for David Mullins’ father, who passed away during the filming and production of LOU.
  10. LOU is the only character in the film who is wearing red.Bonus Fact: The antagonist of the film, JJ, can be seen in the background of INSIDE OUT, and his name JJ is named after Mullins’ mother “Joyce John”.

Be sure to get to CARS 3 on time so you don’t miss out on viewing LOU and tell me if you find JJ in INSIDE OUT!
