Our Presidential candidates leave a lot to be desired on the marriage and divorce issue. One married a second cousin, another told his ex-wife they were getting a divorce while recovering from cancer surgery, and another wanted to play around after being a POW. Are these men worth our trust?
Newt Gingrich (Rep) has been married 3 times. He cannot seem to get it right. It is noted that he generally marries the next wife after an affair within months of the last divorce. His first wife was haggled while she was recovering from cancer. Lawyers told his second wife before it was to break in the news. His third wife(former mistress) was shown to have received a Congressional Aide job she was not qualified for based on having an affair with Gingrich. His platform during his tenure in public life was “Family Values”
Rudy Guliani is on his third wife as well. This Republican blatantly paraded his mistress around the mansion, on TV, etc.He subsiquently married his mistress. He was tough on crime, but failed in the family department, since his own children refuse to help him campaign. His first wife was his second cousin, so the marriage was annulled after 14 years. He told his second wife it was over through a Press Conference. His official website makes no mention of the children or his ex-wives.
Dennis Kucinich is also a member of the three-timer club, but he is the only Democrat at this level. He married his newest wife in 2005. No real info available on the why the divorces. Chris Dodd was divorced during his first term in the Senate. He married his current wife in 1999.He did date Mick Jagger’s ex-wife, Bianca for a short spell. He wins the prize for waiting the longest between divorces. It was 17 years. John McCain (Rep) was married twice. He divorced his first wife says, ‘The break-up of our marriage was not caused by my accident or Vietnam or any of those things. I don’t know that it might not have happened if John had never been gone. I attribute it more to John turning forty and wanting to be twenty-five again than I do to anything else.'” He hooked up with a blond twenty-five year-old former cheerleader he’d met in Hawaii as his marriage to Carol was disintegrating.
Her name was Cindy Hensley, now the current Mrs. McCain, and in February 1980, less than a year after they’d gotten acquainted, McCain divorced Carol on the grounds that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
