Special thanks to Marvel, Disney and ABC for sending me on this all expense paid trip to cover THOR RAGNAROK, “The Mayor” on ABC, CARS 3 Blu-Ray release, Disney Junior’s “Vampirina” and littleBits’ STAR WARS Droid Inventor Kits. With CARS 3 racing to a home theater in YOUR home on Digital today (10/24) and Bluray/DVD on November 7th, I got the chance to visit Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure when I was in Los Angeles for the THOR: RAGNAROK premiere a few weeks ago. The fine folks at Disney wanted us to experience Haul-o-ween at Cars Land so we could find some inspire to host our own CARS 3 inspired parties! Boy do I have some ideas for you: How to throw a Haul-o-ween CARS 3 Viewing Party Inspired by Cars Land!
How to throw a Haul-o-ween CARS 3 Viewing Party Inspired by Cars Land
This time of year Cars Land is all decked out and ready for Halloween with what the townspeople of Radiator Springs call “Haul-o-ween”. The rides are inspired by Halloween, Flo’s V8 Cafe (the diner inspired by the film) has specialty Halloween menus and decorations. Flo’s, for example, has “A Creepy, Crawly Cruiser – Spinning a web of mayhem at Flo’s V8 Cafe is a “terrifying” Spider-car. Guests need not fear though, since this eight-legged friend is available for photos. The Haul-O-Ween designers repurposed a “Toadmobile” from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride for this unique experience.”
The most important part of any party is the food and there are so many fun dishes for you to be inspired by at Flo’s. First there’s the Car-Achnid Pot Pie.
To recreate this dish, use a basic chicken pot pie recipe like this one that I found. Then with the leftover crust use the spider cookie cutter to cut out the spider.
Something as simple as taking your favorite cupcake or mini pie recipe and adding the frosting in a pattern creates the familiarity of your favorite Halloween treats – the Candy Corn! Seriously, this is so easy that I could do it and if I can do it you can too.
I love these cookies from Karen at Desert Chica! They’re inspired by the Cozy Cone Motel’s Haul-o-Ween get up as the Bates Motel!
Also check out these fun treats called Poppin’ Tires from Dina at My Unentitled Life.
There’s a ride at Cars Land called Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters and that becomes Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween. Basically the cars dance around to some of Luigi’s favorite Halloween tunes. You can recreate the same game by doing musical chairs. You know I am not crafty at all if you’ve been reading First Time Mom for any length of time so don’t be surprised that I don’t have a brilliant way for you to create chair backs that look like cars. That’s what I would do though. Well, to be honest I’d probably just print off a few characters and tape them to the back of the chairs but I know there are bloggers out there who have been able to do this.
The Cars in Cars Land are all dressed in their fun costumes including Mater dressing up as a “van-pire,” Lightning is a super hero, Cruz Ramirez is a pirate, Red the Fire Truck is a clown and DJ is a punk rocker. Naturally when you host your viewing party you’ll have to have the kids come dressed in their costumes too!
The other thing they do at Cars Land that is really easy to replicate are the purple twinkle lights they hang from trees. You can also hang chains throughout the party room if you have access to chains that aren’t heavy and won’t destroy your home.
I personally loved seeing Sarge’s Pump–kin Patch; Sarge is growing a patch of seasonal pump-kins. Get it?
Hand Out Passes similar to Disney’s MaxPass
New to Disneyland and California Adventure is Disney’s MaxPass. Disney’s MaxPass allows its cardholders to have Disney PhotoPass downloads and the convenience of mobile Disney FASTPASS through the Disneyland App. It also includes unlimited Photopass downloads for the day; like, for example, magic shots, attraction photos and select Character dining photos. For kids (and grownups) to use the pass set up a photo booth and have the kids “scan” their pass so they can use the booth. Then text the image to the child’s family so they can download the photo. You can also set up little stations similar to the rides and attractions in Disneyland and California Adventure that your little guests will need to scan to play the game.
Hopefully this helped inspire your CARS 3 viewing party or any kind of party for that matter! The key is to be clever and if all else fails look to Cars Land and use them to inspire your next Halloween party!
Remember, CARS 3 is available TODAY on digital and on Bluray November 7th!
