Last spring I was in the midst of training for my first half marathon. Typically, I’m the girl crying on the sidelines at marathons because I’m so in awe and inspired by the marathoners so when I was in the middle of training for a race I never thought I’d be able to run, watching the horror at the 2013 Boston Marathon was heart wrenching. It hit close to home too; my (at the time) pregnant sister, Laura, and her husband were living near the marathon route and my cousin had finished the Boston Marathon the year before in 2012. I couldn’t imagine the heartache and fear the runners, their family members, volunteers, spectators and press felt as the day unfolded.
When I heard that Stonyfield Yogurt was the official yogurt sponsor of this year’s Boston Marathon it was just added another reason why I love this company, their products and what they stand for. The day of the race, Stonyfield will be handing out tons of organic yogurt to those racing, the spectators and the volunteers. What better way to be energized, right? Stonyfield is also sending ten runners who just missed the cut-off due to the number of people running the race to Boston.
Life and pretty much everything that comes with it isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. When I was doing the 90 day weight loss challenge I was constantly having to remind myself that I wasn’t participating to win the entire thing (sure that would have been awesome). I was doing it to make a life change. I wanted to change my life for the better and come out on the other side of life’s marathon in the best health that I could.
During the challenge I was introduced to Greek yogurt by my trainer as a healthy breakfast option as opposed to cereal. Tired of making myself eggs, and even more tired of having to take a while to make my own breakfast after getting the kids theirs, I found Stonyfield Greek Yogurt to be easy and fast. It was just the thing I needed to fill me up, give me energy, and add a little protein into the mix first thing in the day. Almost two years later and it’s still my go to breakfast of choice. I add a little fruit and sometimes some stevia into my yogurt because I buy plain Greek yogurt and I like the sweet taste. But when I’m this pregnant I like to use all of Stonyfield’s flavors. (Um…hello chocolate!) I also love using it in my post workout smoothie with some Isopure protein powder and frozen raspberries.
We pretty much use Greek yogurt whenever sour cream is needed. It’s an awesome substitute and I feel better knowing that my children are eating it rather than slathering their tacos in sour cream. They’re going to do it anyway so they might as well get some of the benefits of Greek yogurt while they’re at it, right?! I do have to be honest though: I try to hide my Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. What else can I say? I don’t like to share my favorite food!
Celebrate the marathon of life this month and the Boston Marathon by trying out some Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. If you already use it as often as I do, tell me what’s your favorite way to incorporate it into your day?
