The Minnesota Children’s Museum has been undergoing major renovation since 2015. This past December, when the museum, located in St. Paul, temporarily closed down, a “pop-up” exhibit called The Amazing Castle opened up in the Mall of America.
The major renovation that’s happening at the St. Paul museum is an expansion. The Children’s Museum says that it’s going to be epic, from their website,
Everyone’s going to have fun, that’s for sure. This is our first major renovation since we opened our downtown St. Paul museum in 1995. Children and adults alike will delight in our 10 new exhibits and enjoy a variety of new amenities.
A glass addition along West Seventh Street will house The Scramble, a four-story climbing adventure. Elsewhere in the new museum, visitors will delight in an updated mini-Minnesota town, get creative in a maker workshop and engineer their own fun in an air-and-water exhibit.
Families also will enjoy a bigger toddler gallery and step out into a revamped rooftop and backyard. Kids will craft their own adventures in a ninja-training course and a carpet skate park.
Plus, visitors will encounter a variety of new amenities, including a café with coffee bar, a skyway-level entrance and box office, another elevator and more bathrooms.
This will be play like it’s meant to be. Natural. Joyous. Genuine. Children will explore, experiment, try new things, test their limits, adapt and grow.
Each exhibit will help children develop the life skills they need to succeed throughout life — how to think creatively, make plans, analyze problems, tackle challenges, speak and listen, work as part of a team and more.
It’s a bigger, better and bolder Minnesota Children’s Museum.
If you haven’t had a chance to visit the pop-up museum at the Mall of America, you need to head on down to Bloomington as soon as humanly possible. It closes on April 23rd.
