We have another great cloth diaper to introduce you to, BabyKicks Basic Pocket Diaper. BabyKicks has been in the cloth diaper business for over a decade.

I’ve been a long time fan of BabyKicks Doublers, so I jumped at the opportunity to review some more BabyKicks products. In addition to the Basic Pocket Diaper I also received some BabyKicks nursing pads to review. Let’s start with their Basic Pocket Diaper.

Overview: BabyKicks Basic Pocket Diaper retails for $15.99, but is currently $13.99 on the BabyKicks website.

It is a One Size diaper designed to fit babies from birth to potty training (7-40 lbs). Its outer waterproof cover comes in six colors and is available with snap or hook & loop closures.

The cover’s interior is a super soft microfleece stay dry lining that has a pocket opening in the front of the diaper. Each pocket diaper comes with a One Size Combo Insert that is comprised of microfiber on one side and natural hemp terry on the other.

My Take: This diaper has several design elements that make it one of the most unique pocket diapers I’ve seen. Each design choice has a specific functional motivation. Let’s start by looking at fit.

Fit: I received a Basic Pocket Diaper with snap closure. Most diapers fasten toward baby’s middle; however, BabyKicks’ “wing snaps” fasten out at baby’s waist.

There are two rows of snaps on the wings, one for thigh adjustment and one for waist adjustment. At first I found it tricky adjusting the wing snaps to find a good fit for Little Girl. This article on the BabyKicks website, “Getting the Best Out of Your BK’s” , was very helpful. It was also helpful to first snap the thigh adjustment snaps on each side, and then secure the wait adjustment snaps.I love the “wing snap” feature on my two year old boy because he’s very active and this feature totally eliminates wing drooping. Upon further examination I can also see how this design element allows for the diaper to fit such a large weight range.

Performance: One thing that really sets BabyKicks products apart from other cloth diapers are their natural fabrics. Their hemp terry is easy to clean, super soft, and really holds onto moisture. I think the One Size Combo Insert is genius because it gives you the best of both worlds in one insert. You have the cost savings and quick absorbency of microfiber along with the natural fiber’s extra absorbency and gentleness on baby’s skin. While the insert is easy to take in and out of the diaper’s front pocket opening, I prefer to lay the insert inside the shell so my little ones have the natural hemp terry against their skin. I love that the insert stays nicely in place both in and out of the pocket. There is also plenty of room in the diaper’s shell for extra inserts, which I appreciate since my two year old is a heavy wetter and needs more than one insert in all of his diapers. Truth be told I’ve had one leak in this diaper on Little Girl, but that was before I figured out my fit issues.

Once the diaper is correctly sized for your baby, the One Size Combo Insert along with the Basic Pocket’s gentle yet secure leg and waist elastics make for a leak-proof diaper.

Quality of Investment: BabyKicks products are well made and from what I can tell built to last. I love that the One Size Combo Insert provides a natural fiber option that is affordable. At $15.99, or $13.99 on sale, I say BabyKicks Basic Pocket Diaper is a good investment for your cloth diaper stash.

BabyKicks Hemp Nursing Pads: I confess, sometimes I feel my kiddos soft cloth diapers and get a little jealous. Mama deserves something soft and functional too, right? Enter BabyKicks Hemp Nursing Pads!

True to BabyKicks wonderful fabrics these nursing pads are soft and absorbent. They are also trim and fairly discrete. Retailing on sale at $9.95 for a set of three, BabyKicks Hemp Nursing Pads are an affordable bit of comfort and coverage for the nursing mama.
