About a week ago I received a lovely box in the mail from Mighty Leaf; in the box contained an Iced Tea Brew Kit. Now, I’m a lover of iced tea, especially when it’s the summertime, and usually I just use a huge plastic (probably not BPA free) container and individual tea bags. I set the container on my deck and let the sun brew the tea. I grew up with this method of iced tea making. My mom called it “sun tea.” It sounds summery, doesn’t it? It is and it’s good when it’s cool, however, it does take some time to get cool after soaking the sun’s rays for a few hours. It’s not instantly cold so I have to add a lot of ice so I can drink it right away.
When I read the brewing directions for the Ginger Peach tea that I was going brew first I noticed that the suggested way of brewing the tea was to boil water first. I did that, despite going against my usual brewing method; then I added the tea bag to the water that’s boiled in the supplied Takeya iced tea pitcher. I have to be honest, I was a little worried about melting the Takeya pitcher, despite its packaged claims of being indestructible. Never fear, it is indestructible. After letting the tea bag seep for about four minutes I added ice until the tea in the pitcher reached the top.
This particular day it was about 89 F* outside and despite my urging to set our A/C to mimic an arctic climate, my wonderful husband refused to set it for anything less than 76 F*. The Ginger Peach lasted for the afternoon; I drank it up so quickly and it was so refreshing! The icy cold Ginger Peach tea paired with the Takeya Classic Glass Bottle was just perfect. There’s something that makes drinks taste better in a glass bottle, don’t you think?
Since that first Ginger Peach batch I have tried all four iced tea flavors from Mighty Leaf, these descriptions are written by them about their iced teas:

I added some sliced orange and lemons to the Organic Black and it gave the tea a nice fruity flavor. Now I must divulge that I tested out the sun brewing method and Mighty Leaf definitely knows their stuff. The brewing instructions on each box of tea is specific to that kind of tea and boy does it affect taste. Mighty Leaf gave me this little tidbit of tea trivia, “when brewing green teas, the boiled water should sit 3 – 5 minutes (so it cools to about 170 to 180 degrees) before steeping and the steep times are shorter for green teas. Many people don’t like green tea but it is due in part to being over-steeped which brings out bitter flavors.” They are spot on correct. I brewed the Sunburst Green the way the suggested and it tasted ten times better than when I brewed it on my own (which I’m sure I over-steeped b/c I multi-task when I do everything). So read the directions on the box, follow what they say, Mighty Leaf tested things out for you already to guarantee that you have the best flavor their tea offers.
